An Enemy of the People

An Enemy of the People

An Enemy of the People

By Henrik Ibsen

Adapted by Arthur Miller

“Without power, what good is the truth?”

A small, coastal fishing community enters into a new era of prosperity and fame when the town’s socially-minded, but prideful doctor convinces his brother, the authoritarian and equally prideful mayor, and other leading citizens to transform the local hot springs into a health resort. But, the town’s new found fortune is balanced upon the edge of a razor after Dr. Stockmann makes a shocking discovery that will set brother against brother and neighbor against neighbor. Though written by Ibsen in 1882 and adapted by Miller in 1950, An Enemy Of The People grapples with timeless, societal themes such as political and social corruption, science denial, media manipulation, power, class and the isolation of the principled versus the tyranny of the mob. “...Standing up for the truth is for the strong, and the strong must learn to be lonely.”

Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.
Sundays at 2:30 p.m.

Cinderella

Cinderella

Cinderella

By Sean Adams

Based on the tale by Charles Perrault

Rhodopis in ancient Greece, Aschenputtel in Germany, Ye Xian in China – there is perhaps no other fairy tale so commonly told by so many cultures across the world. But it was French author Charles Perrault’s retelling of the classic tale that we know best, and now Gamut Theatre's Young Acting Company will take on the challenge of presenting this unique adaptation of Cinderella.

Forced by her stepmother to maintain their lavish home, and dubbed “Cinder Ella” by her stepsisters after cleaning the soot-filled fireplace, Ella dreams of a happier life.  When the Prince announces a celebration – a magnificent ball to be held over three nights – Ella wants nothing more than to go. It seems that the momentous occasion will pass her by until her fairy godmother appears to grant her every wish.  This full-length original adaptation of the classic tale shows what it’s like when the shoe (or slipper) is on the other foot, and reminds us how it’s lucky to be beautiful, but far greater to be kind.

Gamut Theatre Group  is Harrisburg Shakespeare Company and Popcorn Hat Players Children’s Theatre.  Our mission is to tell classic stories in new and exciting ways. Each year, our Young Acting Company takes center stage in April to present a mainstage play.

Gamut Theatre’s Young Acting Company presents Cinderella written by Sean Adams, an original work based on the traditional folk tale by French author Charles Perrault. This much-beloved folk tale has been adapted into a full-length play performed by students, ages 6 through 18.

Directed by Gamut’s Executive Director, Melissa Nicholson, the cast of Cinderella is composed of both former and current students of the Gamut Theatre Academy program, as well as newcomers to the Gamut Theatre.  The performance will feature singing, dancing, staged combat, the irreverent humor that the Popcorn Hat Players are known for, as well as giving the cast of students a chance to learn the ins and outs of a professional theatrical production as they display their own incredible talent.

Cinderella will be presented at the Select Medical Mainstage at Gamut Theatre on Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4 at 7:30pm; Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5 at 2:30pm.

Tickets are $19 each and seating is reserved. Reservations at GamutTheatre.org, 717-238-4111, or info@GamutTheatre.org.

Hamlet

Hamlet

HAMLET

“What a piece of work is a man?”

Hamlet is one of the most powerful and influential tragedies in the English language. Gamut Theatre’s interpretation deals with the most compelling of the plays themes: Philosophy, revenge, morality, psychosis, and suicide through the eye of the adolescent. A modern version of this age old play is sure to intrigue and challenge any age, leaving them with the question “To be, or not to be?”

Recommended for ages 12 and up, the production is extremely accessible, employing Gamut’s unique educational engagement style of combining Shakespeare’s original text with modern narrations to bridge the most famous scenes from the play together into an easy-to-understand story. This dynamic show is performed by six highly–talented actors, runs 90 minutes, and each performance is followed by a talk-back discussion with the audience.

Cinderella will be presented at the Select Medical Mainstage at Gamut Theatre on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18 at 7:30pm; and Sunday, April 19 at 2:30pm.

Tickets are $19 each and seating is reserved. Reservations at GamutTheatre.org, 717-238-4111, or info@GamutTheatre.org.

27th Annual Free Shakespeare in the Park: Medea By Euripides

Medea has challenged audiences for 2500 years in an exploration of love, loss, betrayal, and horrific consequences. Join Gamut Theatre Group's Harrisburg Shakespeare Company for the 27th Annual Free Shakespeare in the Park held at Reservoir Park in Harrisburg! Admission is FREE. We will be collecting canned good items for Bethesda Mission and encourage you to bring a donation.

Come early with your own blankets or chairs to grab a spot on the lawn and enjoy Shakespeare under the stars!
