ABOUT THE PLAY

The Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson

Directed by Kelli Kauterman

Four very real women who lived boldly in France during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror hang out, murder Marat, lose their heads, and try to beat back the extremist insanity in the Paris of 1793. What was a hopeful revolution for the people is now sinking into hyper violent hypocritical male rhetoric; however will the modern audience possibly relate?

Performance Dates: October 4 - 19 | 2025

Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30pm | Sundays at 2:30 PM

Rehearsals: July 29 - October 3

COMPENSATION

All roles are compensated. Actors will receive a one-time stipend at the close of the show. Amount of stipend varies pending size of role. At this time, Gamut cannot provide housing accommodations for actors.

AUDITION DATES

Actors may choose between two dates for Open Auditions: 

  • Tuesday, July 22 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM

  • Wednesday, July 23 from 6:00 - 9:00 PM

If needed, callbacks will be Thursday, July 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM

AUDITION LOCATION

Auditions will be held at Gamut Theatre Group, 15 N Fourth Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101. Street parking is free after 5:00 PM and all day Sunday. The auditions take place in the Select Medical Mainstage at Gamut Theatre, a small ¾ thrust stage with minimal theatrical lighting.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS & PROCEDURE

  • Review the character descriptions and prepare the sides for the characters you are interested in.

  • Sign up for a 20-minute audition slot using the “AUDITION SCHEDULING” form at the bottom of the page.

  • Download and complete the Audition Form and bring it with you to auditions. There will also be physical copies available upon arrival.

  • Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled audition time.

  • Bring a headshot (head and shoulders photo) and a resume.

  • Actors may be asked to attend callback auditions on July 24. Callbacks will only be held if necessary.

  • We will not be accepting virtual submissions for this production.

  • We are seeking to cast female-identifying actors in all roles for this production.

  • Actors must be 18 years or older to audition.

  • Actors must be comfortable using strong language.

WE ARE AUDITIONING FOR THE FOLLOWING ROLES:

Please note: The part of OLYMPE DE GOUGES is already cast.

CHARLOTTE CORDAY: 25. Badass country girl and assassin. Very serious, hardened by righteousness, never been kissed. Has a pocket watch she keeps checking. Also plays FRATERNITE in a mask.

MARIE-ANTOINETTE: 38. Less badass but fascinating former queen of France. Bubbly, graceful, opinionated, totally unaware, unintentionally rude, and oddly prescient. Never had a real friend. Also plays FRATERNITE in a mask.

MARIANNE ANGELLE: 30s. A badass black woman in Paris. She is from the Caribbean, a free woman, a spy working with her husband, Vincent. Tough, classy, vigilant, the sanest one of them all.

Review and prepare the sides for the role(s) you are auditioning for. There will be copies to read from at auditions, but actors may also bring their own. Actors are encouraged to review but not necessarily prepare all the sides to get a feel for the pace of the dialogue.

REHEARSALS

Rehearsals will begin on Tuesday, July 29. Rehearsals will be primarily on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings until closer to the show, with occasional Saturday and Sunday afternoon rehearsals. Please list all conflicts between July 29 and October 3 on your Audition Form. Scheduling conflicts reported after auditions may not be accommodated. If you repeatedly miss rehearsals, your role will be recast.

Please be honest and accurate regarding any conflicts you think you might have.

Actors must be available for ALL performances.

✔️ Show up 15 minutes early to your audition with your completed audition form, headshot, resume, and prepared sides! Oh, and break a leg!
