ABOUT THE PLAY

La Bella Durmiente

Sleeping Beauty

Directed by Weimy Montero Candelario

Gamut Theatre Group is seeking a Spanish-speaking male and female actor, preferably of Hispanic descent, to join the Popcorn Hat Players en Español! for an upcoming production of La Bella Durmiente (Sleeping Beauty).

This is a fun, fast-paced, Spanish-speaking production designed to entertain young audiences across the region. Actors should be comfortable performing in schools and community venues.

NOTE: If an actor is not of hispanic descent but speaks Spanish fluently, we still encourage them to audition!

REHEARSALS & PERFORMANCES

La Bella Durmiente will begin touring after January 6, 2026.

La Bella Durmiente will have a public performance at Gamut Theatre Group on April 11, 2026.

NOTE: ACTORS MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR THE APRIL 11TH SHOW.

Rehearsals will take place in the first 3 weeks of December 2025.

COMPENSATION

All roles are compensated. Actors will receive a one-time stipend at the end of the rehearsal period and a check for every tour or public performance. At this time, Gamut cannot provide housing accommodations for actors.

AUDITION LOCATION

Auditions will be held at Gamut Theatre Group, 15 N Fourth Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101. Street parking is free after 5:00 PM and all day Sunday. Auditions will be held in the Taylor Classroom of Gamut’s Education Center.

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS & PROCEDURE

  • Actors auditioning for La Bella Durmiente must…

    • Be at least 18 years or older

    • Be fluent in Spanish

    • Be energetic and engaging on stage

    • Be able to perform with different character voices and accents

    • Have flexible availability for touring performances

  • We prefer that actors auditioning for La Bella Durmiente

    • Are of Hispanic/Latinx Descent

    • Have improvisation background and/or training

    • Have experience working with children

  • Perform one memorized monologue in Spanish. We recommend actors choose something that highlights their personality and physicality, as we look for those traits when casting for Popcorn Hat in Spanish.

  • Sign up for a 10-minute audition slot using the “AUDITION SCHEDULING” form at the bottom of the page.

  • Download and complete the Audition Form and bring it with you to auditions. There will also be physical copies available upon arrival.

  • Plan to arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled audition time.

  • Bring a headshot (head and shoulders photo) and a resume.

AVAILABLE ROLES:

There are two tracks available in La Bella Durmiente. One track is for male-identifying actors, and the other is for female-identifying actors. This show is incredibly fast-paced and involves switching in and out of different characters very quickly. Below are the roles each actor plays.

Male Track: The Narrator, The Prince, The King, and The Old Woman

Female Track: The Queen, The Good Fairy, Fairy Sour Puss, Princess Belinda (The Sleeping Beauty), The Butcher, The Baker, and The Old Man.
