SHAKESPEARE IN THE WOODS

August 3 - 7 | 2026

Ages 8-16

Experience Shakespeare like never before with Shakespeare in the Woods! Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Ned Smith Center in Millersburg, students will bring the classic story of Hamlet to life in their outdoor DeSoto Amphitheatre!

Shakespeare in the Woods is a five-day immersive theatre education program taught by Gamut Theatre, central Pennsylvania’s only professional theater dedicated to telling classic stories in new and exciting ways.

Actors will explore Hamlet, Shakespeare’s timeless tragedy, through voice, movement, stage combat, and character workshops, all while embracing the natural environment as their stage. With plenty of opportunities for creativity and collaboration, students will develop their performance skills and connect with Shakespeare’s most famous characters, lines, and scenes.

The final performance runs 60 minutes and has a talk-back discussion between the actors and audience following the performance.

Shakespeare in the Woods is directed by Melissa Nicholson, Gamut Theatre’s Executive Director.

Drop-off is between 7:30 and 8:00 AM at Gamut Theatre.

Pick-up is between 5:00 and 5:30 PM at Gamut Theatre.

A bus will be provided to transport students to and from the Ned Smith Center each day.
