Gamut Theatre Group is the combined Theatre Company of the Popcorn Hat Players Children's Theatre and the Harrisburg Shakespeare Company. Our mission is to tell classic stories in new & exciting ways. We strive to present quality theatric performances for the enrichment of Central Pennsylvania by making theatre accessible in a way that educates, entertains, and inspires adults and children alike.
Each year, Gamut gives 250 performances to 30,000 people, and 20,000 students enjoy our theatre school classes, workshops, residencies, and shows. Over our 22 year history, we have cumitivley reached 500,000 adults and children through our touring and educational programs. Gamut also hosts and participates in community outreach programs including Free Shakespeare in the Park, and KIDSFEST. We have been recognized by the press and public for the quality of our productions, and the breadth of our programs. Gamut is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and an Educational Improvement Organization as approved by the PA DCED Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program through which Gamut is eligible to receive corporate donations.
We are located on the third floor of Strawberry Square in downtown Harrisburg. This innovative theatre space seats 100 patrons on three sides of the performance stage, bringing the action and drama close to the audience and creating an intimate viewing experience. Most notably distinguished by the three levels of scaffolding that line its theatre walls, ‘The Gamut’ is one of the most unique performance facilities in the area and has often been compared to an off-Broadway space.

Gamut Theatre’s brand new interpretation deals with the most compelling of the plays themes: philosophy, revenge, morality, psychosis, and suicide through the eye of the adolescent. A modern version of this age old play is sure to intrigue and challenge anyone with the question, “To be, or not to be?”

The National New Play Network (NNPN) in Washington, D.C., has chosen Gamut Theatre Group as one of three theaters across the country to premiere Women Playing Hamlet, written by William Missouri Downs. The play opens March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Gamut Classic Theatre, and runs through March 29 with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and matinees on Sundays at 2:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $27.
