The Other Apprentice
A Sequel in Two Acts
Saturday, December 19 | 7:30 PM
“So, a little fairy named Jacob turns up and waves his wand and suddenly you’re absolved! Is that how it works in your world?”
In Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, there were two apprentices serving in the jovial Mr. Fezziwig’s warehouse at the same time. Ebenezer Scrooge was one of them. Mixing tragedy with dark humor, this is the untold story of the other: Dick Wilkins, proprietor of a rag-and-bone shop who has only grown to resent Scrooge’s riches over the years. So much so that, after an evening of heavy drinking at a local tavern – and hearing over and over again about Scrooge’s so-called reformation - Dick’s meandering path home ends up delivering him to Scrooge’s doorstep – where, on the spur of the moment, he decides to hold his former co-apprentice accountable for his past transgressions.
Based on characters from Dickens’ original Christmas classic, The Other Apprentice explores the moral implications of whether Scrooge – or anyone – deserves to be completely forgiven for their cold-hearted cruelty toward others.
This show is appropriate for ages 12 and up.
